Chilling out in Taba Egypt

Karen recently spent a week in Taba, on the shores of the Red Sea

“Taba is a great place for chilling out for a week or two in the sun – there’s very little there apart from some exceptionally nice hotels, mostly situated on the beach, a dive centre and great weather, perfect!

We spent a week at the newest hotel in Taba Heights, the 5* Intercontinental, which is an excellent hotel with a great tapas bar on the lagoon, and did a trip to Petra and a trip to Cairo from there, although I would quite happily have done nothing for the week! I think there will be more hotels there in the next few years as it is a purpose-built resort that is growing quickly, so if you are looking for peace and quiet now is the time to go!

My friend and I tried our hand at snorkeling, which is fantastic in the Red Sea, and most people there were raving about the diving and reeling off the names of the fish they had seen. Not being a swimmer diving isn’t for me, and I felt I saw a lot of these fish just by snorkeling! There is a little bus that takes you between the hotels in Taba Heights and down to the dive centre at the end of the beach if it’s too hot to walk down the beach!

We booked the trip to Petra while we were in Taba, and I can thoroughly recommend the visit. It is best done with a tour guide as there is so much history there; once in the city it is about a 5 mile walk on the tour, so it starts early as it gets much too hot in the afternoons. It is a stunning place and well worth seeing. We also did Cairo as a day trip, by road, which is a very long day as it is about 5 hours each way. The pyramids are stunning, however, and the Egyptian Museum fascinating, so it was an excellent day. I might suggest visiting Cairo as a separate holiday next time though and spending a couple of days there, as it was a bit rushed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Taba and next time I’m looking for a holiday reading a book on the beach with guaranteed weather, I’ll be going back!”

The stunning Indian Ocean.....Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles and more! 😎🏖☀

The islands of the Indian Ocean are surprisingly varied, ranging from cultural melting pots to dots on the horizon - it’s important to pick the right one for you! The gorgeous islands of the Maldives are probably the most beautiful beach destination we’ve ever been to - picture postcard stuff, and then some! Each resort is an island in its own right, and as you can't really get off your island it’s important to make sure that your resort is ideal for you. The Maldives is perfect for relaxation and gentle activity - if it’s sightseeing and culture you’re after, you’re in the wrong place! Water based activities are popular - if you want decent snorkelling and diving (it’s world-class here) then look for an island with a house reef, or if you prefer to potter in the shallows with a good book and a glass of sauvignon blanc (we’re definitely the latter!) then you need an island with a lagoon. Some resorts come with hefty price tags, so it’s important to get things right!

Cruise and stay with Escape Worldwide ⛴🛳

Cruises are amongst the most popular types of holidays at the moment, effortlessly taking you to different destinations throughout your trip - without the need to keep packing & unpacking! Settle in to your ship and wait for the world come to you, ideally with a good book and a gin & tonic.     At Escape Worldwide we tend to focus on Cruise & Stay Holidays, with the cruise as part of your trip but with a whole load more included too. Invariably you’ve flown to your departure port, so rather than heading straight from the airport to the port we’ll include a few days to explore the destination - places such as Singapore , New Orleans, Cape Town, and Dubai deserve more time than just passing through. After you’ve disembarked we can take you on to another location to round off your trip - a beach resort, perhaps, or another city. Fly onwards from Singapore to Bali or Phuket , take a train from New Orleans to Memphis, pick up a rental car as you return to Cape Town and hea
